article imageKids feeding ducks! Parks! Sunsets over High Drive! Historic houses! Gardens-the Rose Garden, the Perennial Garden, and most of all, the Japanese Garden. Tree-lined streets! Yards full of flowers. Neighbors who talk to and look out for one another.

These are the things that come to mind when describing the Manito-Cannon Neighborhood. Other neighborhoods have these features also, but somehow everything comes together here to create an environment that is a pleasure to be a part of and live in.

The Manito-Cannon Neighborhood is primarily a residential neighborhood located on Spokane's southwest side between 29th on the south, 16th on the north, Grand Avenue, and the bluffs overlooking Latah Creek. Houses date from the late nineteen-teens to the late 1950's, with architectural styles ranging from classic bungalows and Tudor revivals to small cottages and ranchers and an occasional Spanish colonial or Art Moderne. Although commercial establishments are few (two to be exact), any house in the neighborhood lies within 10 minutes of grocery stores, shopping centers, theaters, and the enticements of downtown Spokane.

The neighborhood takes as its special responsibility looking out for Cannon Hill Park and Manito Park. Members have taken an active role in upgrades of park playground equipment and plans for changing the layout of Manito Park to improve safety. They also intend to participate in the park patrols being organized as a means of reducing vandalism in the parks.

The Manito-Cannon Neighborhood is a great place to come home to.
